I think inkwash was a good choice for this. The media creatures a feeling of misty, almost ghostly atmosphere to the abandoned human city and allows you to play with light well in the thumbs you pursued it in.
You might need to give yourself some more breathing room on the scale of the environment thumbs. I get the sense in some of them you're not being descriptive enough simple because you run out of room. Be careful about this, as it can (not always) lead you to forming short, disconnected thoughts instead letting a full idea take shape. You might need to investigate a full street scene, as opposed to tiny windows into a city, to get an understanding of things growing.
Also, try and do a few more next time around. Inkwash can be a slower medium at times, but I'd recommend digging in deeper before beginning a final piece.
